Dr.Y Venugopal Reddy,Former RBI Governor joins UoH as an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Economics Hyderabad|India|March '2009: Dr Y Venugopal Reddy, Former RBI Governor has joined the University of Hyderabad as an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Economics.
Dr Y V Reddy was born on 17 August 1941 in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. Dr Reddy is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1964 batch. He holds a Ph.D. from Osmania University, Hyderabad. Dr Reddy served for five years as the Governor of Reserve Bank of India and retired on September 5, 2008. After a formal meeting with Vice Chancellor, Prof Seyed Hasnain, Dr. Reddy had an interaction with the faculty in the Department of Economics. Dr. Reddy apart from his rich academic association will deliver regular lectures on major economic topics / issues. He has also agreed to mentor research scholars and faculty. His association is likely to strengthen the macro academic goals of the department and the School of Social Sciences .
Prior to being the Governor, he was Executive Director for India , Sri Lanka , Bangladesh and Bhutan at the International Monetary Fund since August 2002. Prior to this, he was Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India . Formerly, he was Secretary, Ministry of Finance, and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce in the Government of India. He served the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India in several capacities including Principle Secretary and Secretary – Finance and Planning, Collector and District Magistrate etc. He was also advisor in World Bank.
Dr Reddy has been a member of Commission of Experts of The President of The UN General Assembly on Reforms of The International Monetary and Financial System. He has also been a Guest of Committee on Global Thought, Columbia University , New York .
An Honorary Fellow of the London School of Economics and Political Science, London (LSE), Dr Reddy has an outstanding international record in academic and financial affairs. His career in the past 43 years embraces service in India at state level in Andhra Pradesh and in national administration, finance, planning, monetary policy and public enterprise reforms. Since 2003, he has been Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and prior to this he was India ’s Executive Director on the Board of the International Monetary Fund. He has been internationally honoured and noted as one of the key players in the restructuring and reform of the Indian economy in recent years, now so better placed on the world stage in terms of high growth and low inflation. His contributions were recognized by Award of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by Sri Venkateswara University , India ; and Doctor of Civil Law honoris causa, by University of Mauritius .
With the Global Economy in the midst of a severe recession, Indian banks appear to have been reasonable insulated. While US Federal Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan believed in the fundamental integrity of the market agents, the sound management and foresight of one man Dr Y V Reddy, the then Governor of RBI tightly regulated the banks and the external capital transactions. Rightly so despite the global financial crisis, the economic pundits predict a sustained growth of 8-9% for the Indian economy in the coming decade. Dr Reddy deserves a big bouquet of pink roses for having created flexibility in the monetary policy that did not lead to a buildup of a bubble in the Indian economy unlike that in the United States . In the words of Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Laureate in Economics, “If We ( United States ) had Dr Reddy; We wouldn’t be in such a mess.”

He has convinced customers the world over about the superior software offerings of Adobe Systems Inc. Under his leadership, Adobe launched the highly ambitious Creative Suite, the sales of which went beyond analysts' most optimistic projections.
The reward has come in swiftly. Early this week, the $1.7-billion information technology major appointed Narayen its president and chief operating officer (COO), which makes him second-in-command to Adobe Chief Executive Officer Bruce Chizen.
In his new position, Narayen takes over much of the company's day-to-day operations from Chizen who will now shift his focus to long-term strategies and growth.
Adobe has not had a COO since 1998. Adobe executives describe the new set-up as similar to how Adobe co-chairmen and co-founders John Warnock and Charles Geschke had split duties. "Adobe has demonstrated that the two can lead successfully," an executive said.
Earlier, as executive vice-president of the worldwide products division, Narayen, an electronics engineer from the Osmania University, successfully oversaw all worldwide research and development for Adobe's award-winning products.
Narayen, who was in the capital this week to inaugurate the company's second research and development centre in Noida at an investment of $ 8 million, says the Silicon Valley can have an extremely energising effect with talented people from all round the world. "The Valley gave me an opportunity to pursue an idea all the way," he says.
Narayen has enough reasons to say so. Before joining Adobe in 1998, he co-founded software-maker Pictra in 1996. Pictra received the Photo Marketing Association's most innovative software award in 1997 for its PictraShare and PictraNet software, making Narayen an early pioneer of digital photo sharing over the Internet.
He was also director at Silicon Graphics Inc and held various senior management positions at Apple. Narayen immigrated to the US from India in 1984 to attend graduate school, earning master's degrees from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and the University of California-Berkeley's Haas School of Business.
The Adobe India centre, Narayen says, will play an important role in the company's overall emphasis on integrated innovation, Adobe's franchisees and partnerships in India with TCS and Wipro were of great importance to the company, he said.
His colleagues say that one of Narayen's greatest strengths is he is as much a nuts and bolts man as he a strategy-minded top boss. To add to that, the COO has an "incredible memory", adds a colleague.
He is also a former competitive sailor, representing India in the 1981 Asian Sailing Regatta. But these days he's more likely to be found on the court with his two sons pursuing the family's passion for tennis. That is, during his extremely limited leisure hours.

Notification: Entrance Test for admission into B.Ed. (Distance Mode)
Applications are invited for entrance test and admission into B.Ed. (Distance Mode) 2009-2010. Teachers with a bachelor degree serving in a recognized school located in Osmania University local area and having at least two years experience of school teaching are eligible to apply. The eligibility criteria and other information are given in information brochure. The application form along with the information brochure can be obtained from the Directorate of Admissions, near University press, Osmania University on payment of Rs.100/- in cash. The filled in application form and ICR sheet along with a demand draft for Rs. 450/- (towards registration fee) should be submitted to the Director, Directorate of Admissions, near university press, Osmania University, Hyderabad-500609 on or before the last dates mentioned below. The application form along with ICR sheet and information brochure is also available on Osmania University websitewww.osmania.ac.in. The candidate can download a copy of application from and ICR sheet and apply to the Director, Directorate of Admissions, Osmania University with a demand draft for Rs. 600/-. Admission into this course will be based on the rank obtained in B.Ed. (distance mode) entrance test. Candidates called for centralized admission will have to appear for the same at their own expense. Not withstanding any thing contained in this brochure, the rules and regulations that are in force in the university on the date of admission will be final. Filled in applications should reach the Directorate of Admissions, Osmania University well before the last date. The Directorate will not take any responsibility in case of postal delay. Submit the filled in application along with ICR sheet and demand draft towards registration fee to the following.
Instructions: (a) read the given instructions carefully before filling up the application form (b) candidates are advised to ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions for admission into the course, before applying for the entrance test. Qualifying in the entrance test alone does not confer a right of admission into the course.

The candidate seeking admission into B.Ed (distance mode) has to satisfy the following conditions (a) teachers with a bachelor’s degree serving in a recognized primary/elementary/ secondary/ senior secondary school and having at least two years’ experience of school teaching at any of the above level are eligible for admission to the course (b) Osmania university will admit only those candidates who are working in schools located in the territorial jurisdiction assigned to it by the university act.
Candidates shall have to produce a certificate of service from the Head of the institution/Employer and self declaration of the service. The candidate should submit no objection certificate from the present employer.
The candidate seeking admission must qualify in the B.Ed (distance mode) entrance test-2010, and satisfy the norms prescribed by the university.
The working experience of two years should be completed as on the date of admission into B.Ed (distance mode) programme.
Admission procedure: (i) The admissions shall be made in the order of merit on the basis of the rank obtained in the B.Ed. (distance mode) entrance test to the extent of sanctioned intake of 500 seats (ii) the percentage of candidates to be admitted in each methodology (subject) shall not exceed the limit prescribed by the universities/govt from time to time. The percentage of admissions into the five methodologies shall be as follows (a) Mathematics Methodology (MS) 01 25%; Physical Sciences Methodology (PS) 02 10%; Biological Sciences Methodology (BS) 03 20%; Social Studies Methodology (SS) 04 35%; English (EM) 05 10% (iii) the methodology - wise percentages shall be followed as per the rules in vogue.
Scheme of B.Ed (distance mode) entrance test
The common entrance test will be of objective type (multiple choice) and of 90 minute duration
Part A General English - 20 marks; Part B (1) General Knowledge - 10 marks (2) Teaching aptitude – 10 marks; Part C Methodology, candidate has to choose one of the following subjects and it consists of 60 questions for 60 marks; Mathematics - 60 marks, Physical Sciences - 60 marks, (i) physics -30marks (ii) Chemistry - 30 marks; Biological Sciences - 60 marks, (i) Botany -30 marks (ii) Zoology - 30 marks; Social Studies - 60 marks, (i) Geography - 20 marks (ii) History - 20 marks (iii) Civics -10 marks (iv) Economics - 10 marks; Special English - 60 marks
Part A and Part B are common for all the candidates irrespective of Methodology.
In case of a tie in the rank, the order of merit will be decided on the following basis (a) marks secured in part A of entrance test (b) in part B of entrance test (c) the marks of qualifying examination and (d) age of candidate (senior in age getting his/her priority)

Hostel accommodation is provided by Osmania University to outstation students. Currently, there are 14 hostels in the University campus. Engineering students are provided with a separate hostel accommodation close to the College of Engineering. Two hostels have been earmarked for girls. The Health Centre has been provided to offers free medical treatment to students, staff and their families. The University also hosts a post office and a branch of the State Bank of Hyderabad.

Osmania University was founded in the year 1918 by the Seventh Nizam of Hyderabad state, Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan. It is the third oldest in southern India, the first to be established in the erstwhile princely State of Hyderabad and the seventh oldest institution of higher learning in India.
